How do I pay your company and do you offer any type of special offers or discounts?
Payment is due at time of service. We accept cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard and Amex. We do offer a 10% senior citizen and military discount as well for chimney inspections and cleanings.
How long before we can get someone out to look at my fireplace?
J.H. Kinard can usually make an appointment in 2 to 3 days and a job can be done in 5 to 10 days depending upon the job and time of year.
I have birds in my chimney. What can I do?
The birds in your chimney are called chimney swift and they nest usually two times a year. After the nesting, your chimney should be cleaned and disinfected. A screen be installed on top of the chimney to keep out any animals or degree that could fall down inside. If you already have a cap, the screen around the cap needs replacing.
Can I save on my gas bill by using my fireplace?
Your fireplace would reflect heat into the room and would have to be burned for a long period of time to make the fireplace efficient.
Can I convert my gas fireplace into wood-burning?
If you have a fully operational fireplace, whether masonry or prefab, It will normally be a matter of removing the gas logs and capping the gas line or installing a gas log lighter. However, with today’s new appliances, direct vent and vent less units would not be set up for solid fuel (wood) and could not be converted to wood-burning.
I have water leaking into my fireplace and I also have water stains on the ceiling and the wall around the fireplace. Can your company fix my problem?
Yes, J.H. Kinard Will complete a thorough inspection to find out where the water is coming from and help in the prevention of further leaks. We install, pans, dampers; seal flashing and crowns, install professional water sealant. Whatever your problem is, we will fix it.
My fireplace smokes. What causes that?
90% of homes have a smoking fireplace because the fireplace was built incorrectly. Other reasons could be because the top is impaired or the flue is impaired.
How often do I need to have my gas log fireplace cleaned?
Gas logs burn cleaner than wood-burning fireplaces do. An annual safety inspection is recommended however cleaning annually isn’t necessary. Vented gas logs will get carbon deposits over time usually and need reconditioning.
Will you need to get inside my home?
Yes, the fireplace cleaning inspection takes place on the inside and outside of the home.
How often do I need to have my wood burning fireplace cleaned?
If you use your fireplace frequently, you should have it cleaned after 1 cord of wood and inspected annually.
